Payton Pritchard is an American professional basketball player who plays as a point guard and shooting guard for the Boston Celtics in the NBA. Born on January 28, 1998, in Tualatin, Oregon, he stands 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs 195 pounds. ​

Early Life and Education

Pritchard attended West Linn High School in Oregon, where he led the team to four consecutive state championships. He earned multiple honors, including the Oregon Class 6A Player of the Year and the Gatorade Oregon Player of the Year in 2015. As a senior, he averaged 23.6 points, 6.8 assists, and 3.1 steals per game.

He played college basketball for the Oregon Ducks from 2016 to 2020. In his senior year, Pritchard received several accolades, such as the Lute Olson Award, the Bob Cousy Award, and was named a consensus first-team All-American. He also earned the Pac-12 Player of the Year honor. ​

Professional Career

The Boston Celtics selected Pritchard with the 26th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. He signed a four-year, $10.5 million rookie contract with the team. In his rookie season, he averaged 7.7 points and 3.8 assists per game. Pritchard played a crucial role in the Celtics’ 2024 NBA championship run, contributing significantly in the Finals against the Dallas Mavericks.

Recent Performance

In the Celtics’ 129-116 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on March 23, 2025, Pritchard started in place of the injured Jaylen Brown and scored 16 points. Over the 2024-2025 season, he has averaged 14.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, shooting 46.9% from the field.
