On Thursday, March 27, 2025, Reddit experienced a significant outage affecting thousands of users across the United States. According to Downdetector, reports of issues began around 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time, with peak incidents surpassing 35,000 at approximately 3:15 p.m. Users encountered difficulties such as “internal server error” messages, problems loading posts, logging in, and accessing subreddits.
Reddit’s status page acknowledged the degraded performance at 3:16 p.m. ET and confirmed the implementation of a fix shortly after. By 4:00 p.m. ET, service was largely restored, and Reddit continued to monitor the situation.
This outage coincided with disruptions on X (formerly Twitter), where users reported issues accessing timelines, posting, and using direct messaging features. At the peak of the X outage, around 18,000 incidents were reported.
While both platforms have resumed normal operations, the simultaneous outages have sparked discussions about the reliability of major social media services and potential vulnerabilities in their infrastructure.
