RJ Luis Jr. is a 6’7″, 215-pound guard for the St. John’s Red Storm basketball team. Born on November 27, 2002, in Miami, Florida, he attended Christopher Columbus High School, where he averaged 25 points and 11 rebounds per game as a senior, earning first-team all-state and all-Dade honors. He spent his freshman year at the University of Massachusetts before transferring to St. John’s.

In the 2024-2025 season, Luis led St. John’s to a 31-5 record and was named Big East Player of the Year—the first Johnnie to receive this honor since 1986.

He also earned consensus second-team All-American honors and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Big East Tournament. His performance included a career-high five 3-pointers in a win over Omaha in the NCAA Tournament’s first round.

In the NCAA Tournament’s second round, St. John’s faced Arkansas, resulting in a 75-66 loss. Luis struggled, shooting 3-for-17 from the field and missing all three 3-point attempts.

He was benched for the final 4:56 of the game, a decision that sparked discussion. Coach Rick Pitino defended this choice, stating, “He played 30 minutes and I went with other people.”

Despite this setback, Luis’s season was marked by significant achievements, including leading St. John’s to its first NCAA Tournament win since 2000 and earning multiple individual honors.
