Sebastian Korda is an American professional tennis player born on July 5, 2000, in Bradenton, Florida. He is the son of former world No. 2 Petr Korda, an Australian Open champion, and Regina Rajchrtová, a former top 30 women’s player. His older sisters, Jessica and Nelly, are both LPGA golf professionals. Korda began playing competitive junior ice hockey at age 3 but switched to tennis at age 9 after attending the 2009 US Open with his father.

Turning professional in 2018, Korda made his ATP main draw debut at the New York Open, where he lost to Frances Tiafoe. He achieved his first significant milestone in 2020 by reaching the fourth round of the French Open as a qualifier, defeating Andreas Seppi, John Isner, and Pedro Martínez before falling to Rafael Nadal.

In 2024, Korda secured his first ATP 500 title at the Washington Open, becoming the first father-son duo to win the same ATP Tour event, as his father had previously won the tournament. He also reached the semifinals at the National Bank Open, defeating top players like Alexander Zverev, which propelled him into the top 15 of the ATP rankings.

In early 2025, Korda reached the final at the Adelaide International but lost to Félix Auger-Aliassime in three sets. At the Miami Open later that year, he achieved a notable victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas, marking his first Top 10 win of the year.

However, Korda’s year has also been marked by challenges. At the Australian Open, he suffered a second-round loss to Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic, who rallied from two sets down to secure the win. Additionally, at the US Open, Korda was eliminated in the second round by Tomas Machac, marking the first exit of a seeded American man from the tournament.

Reflecting on his performance, Korda acknowledged a loss of inner motivation, stating, “I noticed I had lost that inner fire.” He expressed a renewed commitment to regain his competitive edge.

As of March 17, 2025, Korda is ranked No. 25 in the ATP singles rankings. He continues to be a promising talent in American tennis, with aspirations to build on his successes and overcome recent setbacks.
