Semisonic is a rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, formed in 1995 by Dan Wilson (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), John Munson (bass, keyboards, backing vocals, guitar), and Jacob Slichter (drums, percussion, keyboards, backing vocals).

They gained widespread recognition with their 1998 hit single “Closing Time” from the album Feeling Strangely Fine. The song reached the Top 50 in the U.S. and charted internationally.

In recent news, Semisonic publicly criticized the White House’s use of “Closing Time” in a deportation video, stating that the song’s themes of joy and hope were misinterpreted.

Semisonic continues to make music, releasing their latest album, Little Bit of Sun, in November 2023.
