A sinkhole developed on Interstate 287 northbound in Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey, on Friday, March 21, 2025, just after 4 p.m., north of Exit 41B. The sinkhole, located in the left shoulder, led to the closure of the two left northbound lanes.
As of Friday evening, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) was investigating the situation, and there was no estimate for when the lanes would reopen.
This incident adds to the recent challenges faced by New Jersey commuters, following sinkholes that have previously affected Interstate 80 in the area. State officials, including Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, are scheduled to visit Morris County to discuss the ongoing infrastructure issues with Governor Phil Murphy and other representatives.
