The Southern Methodist University (SMU) Mustangs men’s basketball team, under first-year head coach Andy Enfield, has shown significant progress in the 2024–25 season. Transitioning from the American Athletic Conference (AAC) to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), the Mustangs have compiled a 21–8 overall record, with a 12–6 mark in ACC play.
In their ACC tournament debut, SMU secured a decisive 73-53 victory over Syracuse. Chuck Harris and Matt Cross each contributed 12 points, while Boopie Miller and Keon Ambrose-Hylton added 10 points apiece. The team’s defense was particularly effective, holding Syracuse to a season-low point total and preventing them from scoring for the first 5 1/2 minutes of the second half.
However, the Mustangs faced a setback in their subsequent game against Florida State, falling 76-69. Florida State’s Malique Ewin led all scorers with 26 points, contributing to the Seminoles’ first win in five games. For SMU, Boopie Miller was the top performer, leading the team with 16 points and five assists.
As the season progresses, the Mustangs continue to demonstrate resilience and competitiveness in the ACC, solidifying their status as a formidable presence in their new conference.
