The SMU Mustangs men’s basketball team concluded their 2024-2025 season with a narrow 85-83 loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) on March 23, 2025.
In their NIT opener on March 19, SMU secured a 73-63 victory against Northern Iowa. However, their tournament run ended with the defeat by Oklahoma State.
Throughout the season, SMU posted a 24-11 record, finishing fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Despite their strong performance, they were not selected for the NCAA tournament. Nonetheless, they accepted an NIT invitation, aiming to extend their season and compete for the championship.
The Mustangs’ participation in the NIT highlighted their resilience and competitiveness, even though they fell short of securing the tournament title.
