Ebrahim Rasool is a South African politician and diplomat who has served in various significant roles, including as the Premier of the Western Cape and as South Africa’s Ambassador to the United States. Born on July 15, 1962, in Cape Town, Rasool has been an active member of the African National Congress (ANC) and has held several leadership positions within the party.
In January 2025, Rasool presented his credentials to President Joseph Biden Jr., marking the beginning of his second tenure as South Africa’s Ambassador to the U.S. However, in March 2025, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared Rasool “persona non grata,” accusing him of making offensive remarks about the Trump administration during a webinar. As a result, Rasool was ordered to leave the United States within 72 hours.
