Southwest Airlines has announced significant changes to its checked baggage policy, ending its longstanding practice of offering two free checked bags for all passengers. Starting May 28, 2025, the following guidelines will apply:
- Two Free Checked Bags: Available to Rapid Rewards A-List Preferred members, Business Select fare customers, and holders of Southwest’s co-branded credit card.
- One Free Checked Bag: Offered to A-List members and select other customers.
- Checked Bag Fees: Passengers not qualifying for free checked bags will incur fees for their first and second checked bags.
This policy shift aims to boost profitability but has received criticism from passengers who valued the previous free baggage benefit.
