St. John’s University is a private Catholic university located in Queens, New York City. Established in 1870 by the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentian Fathers), it has a longstanding tradition of providing a Catholic-based education.
The university offers a diverse range of undergraduate and graduate programs through its various colleges and schools, including the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Law, the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions, the Peter J. Tobin College of Business, the School of Education, and the College of Professional Studies
In recent years, St. John’s has made significant strides in its athletic programs. The men’s basketball team, known as the Red Storm, achieved a remarkable 31-5 record in the 2024-2025 season, winning the Big East Tournament and earning a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. This marked their first NCAA Tournament win in 25 years.
The team’s resurgence is largely attributed to the leadership of Coach Rick Pitino, who revitalized the program and led them to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
Beyond athletics, St. John’s is committed to providing students with comprehensive educational experiences. The university’s mission emphasizes service, encouraging students to engage in volunteer work and address societal injustices.
Additionally, the university has invested in state-of-the-art facilities, such as the St. Vincent’s Health Sciences Center, which features advanced simulation technology for health science students.
St. John’s University continues to foster a dynamic community that blends academic excellence, athletic achievement, and a commitment to service, preparing students to make meaningful contributions to society.
