Stephen Buchanan is a distinguished American wrestler who recently achieved national recognition. In his first and only season with the University of Iowa, Buchanan secured the NCAA championship in the 197-pound weight class by defeating Penn State’s Josh Barr with a 5-2 victory.
Before joining Iowa, Buchanan had a notable wrestling career at the University of Oklahoma, where he earned All-American honors in 2024. His wrestling journey began at the University of Wyoming, where as a true freshman in the 2019-2020 season, he recorded 26 wins and qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Throughout his high school years, Buchanan was a two-time state champion, compiling a record of 184-16 over four seasons and earning all-conference honors each year. Born in Owen, Wisconsin, he is the son of Stephen and Kerline Buchanan.
