The Tennessee Volunteers men’s basketball team concluded their 2024-2025 season with a 69-50 loss to the Houston Cougars in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. This defeat prevented Tennessee from reaching their first Final Four in program history.

In the game, Houston’s defense was particularly effective, holding Tennessee to just 15 points in the first half—the lowest for a top-2 seed in NCAA Tournament history since 1979. Emanuel Sharp led Houston with 16 points, earning the Most Outstanding Player of the Midwest Region honors. L.J. Cryer added 17 points for the Cougars, who improved their season record to 34-4 and extended their winning streak to 17 games.

Looking ahead, Tennessee faces significant roster changes. Seniors Zakai Zeigler, Jahmai Mashack, Jordan Gainey, and Igor Milicic Jr., along with fifth-year seniors Chaz Lanier and Darlinstone Dubar, are departing. To address these gaps, the Vols are actively recruiting, with reported interests in Virginia guard Isaac McKneely and Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne guard Jalen Jackson. Additionally, Lincoln Memorial guard Elyjah Freeman, who averaged 18.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game this season, is among potential targets.
