Tyronn Lue is an American professional basketball coach and former player, currently serving as the head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA. Born on May 3, 1977, in Mexico, Missouri, Lue played college basketball at the University of Nebraska before embarking on an 11-year NBA playing career. He played for several teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, with whom he won two NBA championships in 2000 and 2001.
After retiring as a player, Lue transitioned into coaching. He began as the director of basketball development for the Boston Celtics in 2009 and later served as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers. In 2016, Lue was promoted to head coach of the Cavaliers, leading the team to its first NBA championship that same year. He became the 14th person to win an NBA championship as both a player and a head coach.
In 2020, Lue returned to the Clippers as head coach. Under his leadership, the team reached the Western Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history during the 2020–2021 season. In May 2024, Lue agreed to a five-year contract extension worth nearly $70 million to continue as the Clippers’ head coach.
Recently, on March 10, 2025, Lue missed a home game against the Sacramento Kings due to back pain. Assistant coach Brian Shaw took over coaching duties for that game.
