Ukraine has agreed to a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire with Russia, contingent upon Moscow’s acceptance. This decision follows extensive talks between U.S. and Ukrainian officials in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. As part of the agreement, the U.S. will resume intelligence sharing and security assistance to Ukraine. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the urgency of the situation and the necessity for peace, expressing hope for Russia’s swift agreement.
Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has urged European nations to maintain financial pressure on Russia, even as a potential ceasefire looms. Yermak highlighted the importance of keeping sanctions in place to prevent Russia from rearming and initiating further conflict.
These developments come after a series of international meetings aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict, including the June 2024 Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland.
