Vicky Nguyen is an Emmy Award-winning journalist serving as the Senior Consumer Investigative Correspondent and anchor for NBC News Daily. Her investigative reports are featured across various NBC platforms, including The Today Show, Nightly News with Lester Holt, NBC News Now, and MSNBC.
Born in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Nguyen and her family fled the country in 1979, spending 14 months in a Malaysian refugee camp before immigrating to the United States. She grew up in San Jose and Santa Rosa, California, and graduated as valedictorian from the University of San Francisco in 2000 with a degree in communications and a minor in biology.
Nguyen’s journalism career began at Central Florida News 13 in Orlando, followed by roles at KOLO in Reno, Nevada, and KSAZ in Phoenix, Arizona. In 2007, she joined NBC Bay Area, where she advanced from special assignment reporter to anchor and senior investigative reporter. She moved to New York in 2019 to take on her current role with NBC News.
Her work has earned numerous accolades, including the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award, the Scripps Howard Award, the Gerald Loeb Award, and multiple regional Emmy and Murrow awards.
Nguyen is also the author of the forthcoming memoir “Boat Baby,” scheduled for release on April 1, 2025. The book recounts her family’s journey from Vietnam to the U.S. and her experiences growing up as a Vietnamese-American.
She resides in New York with her husband, Brian, and their three daughters: Emerson, Odessa, and Renley. Nguyen actively engages with her audience through social media platforms, including Instagram and Twitter.
