Wally Szczerbiak, born on March 5, 1977, in Madrid, Spain, is a former professional basketball player and current sports analyst. He played ten seasons in the NBA as a small forward and shooting guard. Szczerbiak began his collegiate career at Miami University in Ohio, where he earned the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Player of the Year honors in 1999 and led the RedHawks to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
In the 1999 NBA Draft, Szczerbiak was selected sixth overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He went on to play for several teams, including the Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, and Cleveland Cavaliers. Throughout his NBA career, he averaged 14.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.
Since retiring from professional basketball, Szczerbiak has transitioned into a career in sports broadcasting. He serves as a color analyst for the New York Knicks on MSG Network and has also contributed as an analyst for CBS Sports College Basketball.
In March 2025, he praised Will Wade’s coaching abilities and warned that the Atlantic Coast Conference should be wary of NC State under Wade’s leadership.
Szczerbiak’s impact extends beyond the court; he was inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013, recognizing his significant contributions to the sport.
